Barcelona Real Estate Guide to Pedralbes, Zona Alta

Pedralbes is part of the so called 'High Zone', or Zona Alta, of Barcelona. It is a residential area with high quality luxury buildings; some developments having private gardens and pools. This district is considered as one of the most exclusive in the city, an area where tradition and modernity exist in harmony. There are a number of innovative buildings which stand out among the office blocks, hotels and apartment complexes, most notably the Trade Towers.

This neighborhood has the majority of foreign schools and universities in Barcelona, and is also home to major shopping centres, with up market department stores and shops specialising in luxury goods and designer clothing. Although there aren't that many restaurants in this neighbourhood, those you find are very good indeed. The area has many gymnasiums, fitness clubs, and sports centres.

Pedralbes is home to the beautiful Monestir de Pedralbes, which was founded in the early 14th century by Queen Elisenda de Montcada. This monastery is home for the nuns of the order of Saint Clare, and continues to be very evocative of the peace and tranquility of the monastic life. One cell contains the excellent murals created by Ferrer Bassa, and a wander through the cloisters, chapterhouse and abbey shows the artistic legacy that has been preserved by these sisters, and allows an understanding of how they have lived for centuries.

Also in Pedralbes is Palau Reial de Pedralbes, the royal palace built for King Alfonso XIII in 1929. The Palace is home to the Museu de Ceràmica i de les Arts Decoratives, and the gardens of the Pedralbes Royal Palace which form a geometrically designed classical-style park with beautifully fashioned flower beds, and ancient trees scattered across the park land.

	Some of the cities most select shopping centres are here: Pedralbes Center and L´illa on Avenida Diagonal, also there’s a Caprabo supermarket. Also on Avenida Diagonal, we can find the department store “El Corte Inglés”.
